Umid and Babek fields further development project (Azerbaijan, Caspian sea)
CHALLENGE:
Customers required the design, manufacturing, and delivery of several Subsea isolation ball valves (SSIV) and Subsea NRV swing check valves for the Umid and Babek fields further development project. Located at 75Km far from Baku in the deep-water of the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea, The Umid-Babek fields have estimated reserves of 600 billion cubic meters gas and 110 million tons of condensate at minimum.
SOLUTION:
AMPO POYAM VALVES produced and delivered for this project 20” 1500 lbs API6DSS Subsea isolation ball valves, which have been destinated to create a safety barrier to protect the Umid-2 offshore platform from unexpected contingences. Additionally, 20” 1500 lbs API6DSS Subsea swing check valves were also delivered for the same project. The whole scope of valves undergone extensive R&D to guarantee reliability and safety, as well as qualification testing according to the API 6A PR2. The PR2 test qualification was performed at AMPO POYAM VALVES’ Product Performance Test Lab, integrated in the valve manufacturing facilities in Idiazabal and carefully overseen by Bureau Veritas to ensure and validate the integrity of the valves design and its components. Regarding valve manufacturing, a special mention must be made to the stem, which was manufactured in INCONEL alloy 725, a highly resistant material to corrosion not in mention to the AMPO In-House overlay process with Inconel 625 performed in our New Machining Center covering all the internal parts of the valves in contact with the fluid. Finally, a true metal to metal stem sealing solution was also applied to guarantee an operational extended life for both type of valves.
