Belgian natural gas operator FLUXYS LNG has trusted in AMPO POYAM VALVES for the construction and commissioning valve services for its Zeebrugge LNG plant. As a result, AMPO SERVICE technicians will be on Belgium for a whole year in order to support the technical staff of Fluxys LNG and help extend valves´ service life, supporting the cleaning process of the pipes, assembling internal valve components as well as actively participating in the commissioning and start up processes of the plant.
AMPO POYAM VALVES has supplied around 1300 cryogenic butterfly valves and highly engineered ball, globe, gate and check valves for this project, which will all be installed in the fifth LNG storage tank of Zeebrugge LNG, which has a capacity of 180,000 cubic meters.
The engineering of this expansion project was carried out by Duro Felguera and was based on the execution of a natural gas vapor recovery system and the construction of a fifth LNG storage tank. This expansion will allow Fluxys LNG increase its plants’ storage capacity from 380,000 to 560,000 cubic meters.
The gas that will be stored in these tanks will mainly come from the Russian plant Yamal LNG, as a result of the contract signed by Fluxys LNG and Yamal LNG for the shipment of 8 million tons of LNG per year over the next 20 years. Yamal currently has one of the largest natural gas reserves in Russia.
Moreover, Zeebrugge LNG has been consolidated over the last years as an important gas distribution platform in the market, and it currently supplies 15% of the Western European market.
